[Review] Assassination Classroom Live Action (2015)

Hello~! Finally I have time to write my own review about my favorite manga turn into live action, Assassination Classroom. The DVD of this movie ranked 1st on Oricon Weekly Overall DVD Ranking of October 5th 2015. The DVD also ranked #1 at Amazon Japan DVD Best seller ranking in Action movie category, as of September 30th 2015.

The sequel of this movie "Assassination Classroom: Graduation" will be release next year, 2016.

If you already read the manga, then you know how the story line of this Assassination Classroom. If you haven't then.. I'm going to explained a bit about the manga and the plot, before I write the long comment~

Assassination Classroom, is a manga written by Yusei Matsui. First published in Japan, 2012; and in Indonesia on 2015. This series published in Shounen Jump weekly magazine. (Shounen jump: manga for boys)  and it is once of best selling manga in 2015 in Oricon weekly chart together with One Piece, Naruto, Attack on Titan, and Tokyo Ghoul.

Plot:
The Earth is threatened by a powerful creatured who destroyed 70% of the moon with his power. The creature, an "alien" with an octopus body, threatened the governments that he will destroy the earth as well a year after he destroyed the moon. But then, the creature offered to become the new teacher for Class 3-E at Kunigaoka Junior High School.

Class E itself is a class for those who can't get higher rank in academic. That's why they got E, means END. The way the students treated by the teachers and vice principal also different, they got bad treat from the school, they got the worst building in the middle of the mountain. You know, it's like "upper-class and low-class" but it's in academic level not with how rich you are.

The creature, have his own way to teach his students, not only regular subjects but also the way of assassination. The Japanese government promises to give reward 10 billion Yen to students who succeeds in killing him.

But then, killing him is not an easy task, just like his name "Koro-sensei" from "Korosenai" means "unkillable" (sensei = teacher), Koro-sensei have several superpowers including the capacity of moving at Mach 20, with Mach 20, you can fly Japan to China in only 10 minutes.  Even with such a weird body-face, and also superpower, Koro-sensei is also the best teacher they've ever had.

Now you already know the story line now move into the characters. In this story aside Koro-sensei, the student who become main character is Nagisa Shiota . But then in the manga, Yusei Matsui also explained story of the students, how they face their own problem as students with help of Koro-sensei. There are also teachers who are best in their own skills such as Karasuma-sensei , and Irina Jelavic (students called her as "Bitch-sensei").

There are several antagonists characters in the story, they are appeared regarding the story line. So, it would be better if you read the manga first, before you watch the movie, or you will be confused in the end of the story (spoiler).

Characters:

The voice actor in anime version for Koro-sensei is Fukuyama Jun, but in live action is Ninomiya Kazunari, a member of Arashi, one of the idol group from Johnny & Associates. I used to hear FujuJun voice when watching Anime one, so it kinda weird at first when I heard Nino version. He did his best.

My fav part when he screamed "BAKA BAKA" hahaha that's really Nino. Well I think i know why they chose Nino, aside his unique voice, the sequel one will include Koro-sensei past in human form  (spoiler for those who haven't read) so, it will be weird if we listen to Nino voice as Koro sensei in movie, but when in human form is not Nino right? Akh, I can't wait to see Nino portrayed "The God-of-Death" in the sequel~

In the movie, Nagisa Shiota portrayed by Yamada Ryosuke, a member of Hey! Say! JUMP, idol group from Johnny & Associates; also junior of Arashi (Arashi debut in 1999, HSJ in 2007).

Yamada is too handsome as Nagisa... (oh well, he's from Johnnys, the company is full with hotties singers and actors). Since in manga, Nagisa is very pretty boy even mistaken as a girl because of his hairstyle if he doesn't wear his school uniform. But Yamada portrayed Nagisa really good, not the best, maybe Yama-chan should play more with eyes and expressions. Wish you improved in next movie.

Karasuma Tadaomi portrayed by Shina Kippei. I watched his drama for the first time, is when he portrayed the funny detective in Nazotoki wa dinner no ato de, then he turn out as serious character like Karasuma-sensei, that more than I imagine.

In the manga, Karasuma-sensei look younger, well blame manga for not tell us how old and add wrinkles in the old chara, we have high expectation lol. Talking bout his acting skill? He can make me forget his once a funny stupid detective is good enough for me hahaha. I wish they will show lots of action scene in sequel one for him.

The smartest student, Akabane Karma in movie, portrayed by Masaki Suda. He is so cool as in really cool as Karma, the lack one only the hairstyle. Well, I prefer the stylist styled his hair with bangs, but in a cool way. I think Masaki Suda already perfect as Karma, but that my own opinion, it could be different in other point of view.

Kaede Kayano, Nagisa's girl best friend portrayed by Yamamoto Maika.

Hairstyle? match with anime, she's also shorter than Nagisa (Yamada Ryosuke) just like in the anime. Maika's acting skill portrayed as Kayano is surprisingly perfect. Her eyes playing a lot in several scenes, especially when Koro-sensei "fighting" with the new transfer student, Horibe Itona.

Well in live action, they didn't show some of Kayano's character as a girl who experience slight inferiority complex when it comes to sex appeal, also her love for pudding. I wonder how she acts in sequel later when she reveals her true identity.

The sexy foreigner teacher, who are a professional hitman and use her sexy and charming side to seduce her victims, Irina Jelavic portrayed by Kang Jiyoung (ex member of Korean group, KARA).  I thought the one who played as Irina will be a foreigner actress, because in the story, Bitch-sensei is foreigner. Kang Jiyoung chose path as actress in Japan, and this is my first time watching her act and as  "bitch-sensei".

Sexy and gorgeous yes, but her acting need to be more improved especially when screaming "kill" to Koro-sensei who are try to listen Bitch-sensei's story when she was 17. My fav part in Jiyoung's scene? when she was having conversation in serious mode on with Karasuma-sensei, but turn out comedy since she gave him wrong picture lol.

I cannot explain all characters including students because it will be very very long. Last comment is Terasaka character. I can't help it, although he's not very stand out but I really want to comment about the actor who portrayed him. In the manga, Terasaka character is rude, big guy, really hate Koro-sensei (but he change in the end)  In the movie, they didn't show that side of Terasaka a lot even the Naruto scene. Oh sad, I love that part of Terasaka in the manga. They only show his rude side during first part of the movie, but in the next one, Terasaka really get along with other students and Koro-sensei faster than the manga, even show pic of Terasaka selfie with Koro-sensei when the teacher brought him to other city to play while studying. But I like the one who portrayed Terasaka, Sugawara Ken. He looks 10 times cool and handsome than manga one. Now the character end until this one, let's continue to final one, review~~

Review about the movie:
Compare with the anime and manga, the stories about each students problem come really fast and just about daily stories of Koro-sensei in teaching his students. (must be because of the time that only 2,5 hours approximately). They even introduced Bitch-sensei in the first part of movie, when they're doing absent. Her appearance come first than Akabane Karma's scene.

In the movie, they add some little "romantic" one, where Nagisa likes a girl from other class, it's not even exist in the anime or manga, seems the scriptwriter or director add those little scene because he don't want Assassination Classroom all about killing the weird sensei?

The scene of introduced "Ritsu" the new transfer student, followed by Horibe Itona another transfer student also very fast, it's even Ritsu who introduced Itona, not his guardian, Shiro. It's like another daily stories but have some twist.

The thing they should improve is setting one. I don't know what happen, is it production cost or what, but the summer camp scene, have same plot like in the manga, when they have holiday after get great scores in final test, but the event not in other island but at school. I can even count how many settings they include in movie.. School, street, the government office.

Oh well, good thing they add some little comedy in the movie; my favorite scene is this one

Yes, it's Koro-sensei small version (clone one). Koro-sensei have superpower like make his own clones. When Koro-sensei lost 1 of his tentacle, his clone will decreased or get smaller. The funny thing is, just like in the manga and anime, Koro-sensei explained about what happened he lost his tentacles in dramatic funny way, and there Nagisa commented with such cold words.

I didn't review about the climax one, it will be more than spoiler ... the review itself already more than a review, spoiler, spoiler, spoiler.

If you curious with the movie, you can watch it in CGV Blitz since it is already released in Indonesia,  or download if you don't have time to go to cinema.

Long review after a year hiatus....  Thank you for taking time to read this review.
